Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye is hopeful of Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley staying next season.

Gueye believes Everton can mount a serious challenge for a Champions League berth next term but the futures of both Barkley and Lukaku remain in doubt.

He told the Liverpool Echo: “There is no reason to believe at the moment that they are not going to be with us come the start of pre-season.

“I think it would be a good thing for them and for us as players if they are with us. We are all about growing this club and improving it.

“It's great for the club if guys like that do stay. On a personal level I get on great with both of them, we have a laugh in training.

“I have a great relationship with them off the field but an even better one with them on the field, passing the ball and working with them.

“It's not really me you need to ask about what's going to happen. It would be great for the club if they are here."
