Everton midfielder Darron Gibson happy to take leadership role

Everton midfielder Darron Gibson is happy to take a leadership role next season.

Having signed a two-year contract extension earlier this month, the 28-year-old is looking forward to impressing new boss Ronald Koeman in pre-season as he looks to rewrite an injury-stricken spell on Merseyside.

He told evertontv: "Being at United, I gained a lot of experience with the Champions League and things like international football, so it's nice to look after the young lads when they come in.

"I know Kieran Dowell quite well as we share the same agent and I spoke to him a few times last season to offer some advice. It is nice to have the experience to pass on.

"It does make it a lot easier when you have experienced players helping you out, but the young lads are good players so if they can handle the pressure of coming into that dressing room, they'll be alright."
