Everton manager Ronald Koeman believes Ross Barkley was not 'productive' in his side's 3-1 defeat at the hands of Arsenal on Sunday.
Koeman has reiterated that the Englishmen will be sold if he does not sign a contract extension by the end of this weekend.
Speaking on the situation last week, Koeman said: "Either he accepts the contract or we sell the player," said Koeman.
"But if you need so much time then you have doubts - I like to work with players who like to stay."
"We don't wait till August - next weekend we need an answer."
Now that the time has come, Barkley sat on the bench for the Toffees clash at the Emirates. He was brought on after only 26 minutes but failed to give the manager what he wanted.
"Ross was one of the players who didn't show productivity today," said Koeman.
"It's not about one player."
"We need to find players with more productivity," he said. "The board will back me. We want more quality in. That's what they will support."
