Everton have tabled a bid for Portsmouth defender Sylvain Distin.

The Daily Mail says Everton have offered an initial £4 million down payment rising to £6 million based on appearances.

Pompey boss Paul Hart is still hoping that he can persuade Distin to resist Everton's approach.

"He's a great fella and a wonderful captain. I want him to stay, but we shall just have to wait and see," he said.
