Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has called the 3-0 defeat against Everton a huge wake-up call for the Red Devils.
United were seemingly brushed aside by the Toffees at Goodison Park on Sunday and Smalling acknowledges that the performance of he and his teammates was nowhere near good enough.
"This is a massive wake-up call for us," he said.
"It was very disappointing. I think that was the first time this season that we were off the pace from the first whistle. From the first moment to the last we were second best."
The 25-year old defender also accepted that the Everton players had a willingness to win stronger than that of United.
"I think we lacked aggression. That is what the manager emphasised to us after the game, that they seemed to want it more than us," he added.
