Everton legend Graeme Sharp says England boss Fabio Capello has gaffed leaving Leighton Baines out of his World Cup squad.
The shocked Blues legend has backed the left-back to come back stronger next season as a result of his surprise rejection from the Three Lions set up.
"I think it is very disappointing and I think Leighton will be disappointed," Sharpy told evertontv. "He got himself involved in the set up simply because his form was that good.
"When you look back over the season the England hierarchy can say Leighton Baines did not have a bad game for Everton. I think it is harsh to just look at him in the warm up games and decide there and then that Stephen Warnock is a better option having not seen him play for England.
"I think Evertonians on one hand will be disappointed for Leighton," he continued. "But on the other hand they will be delighted that he'll get a rest this summer so he will hopefully come back better. He will want to prove to Capello that he should have been there."
