The 27-year-old is slowly recapturing the form which saw him an instant hit when he arrived from Glasgow Rangers in January last year.
"Jela will be the first to say he didn't have a great season last season but he has hit the ground running and is coming into this season full of confidence," Sharp told the Liverpool Echo.
"He's gone away on international duty this week and we can only hope he comes back injury-free.
"He has certainly put himself right in the manager's eye and it looks as though we are going to play with the one striker up there."
