Everton legend Joe Royle says Liverpool cannot afford to sell Luis Suarez this summer.

While being shocked and stunned by Suarez's attack, Royle does not believe the Uruguayan, 26 should quit English football in protest at his hefty ban.

Royle told the Daily Star: "You can't get rid of him.

"Getting rid of him would be a backward step when Liverpool need more players of his quality.

"There is something you can't always like about him but he's been one hell of a player for them so they have got to just bite the bullet and take it on the chin I think really."
