Everton keeper Howard open to Colorado Rapids move

Tim Howard is reportedly keen to make a move to MLS club Colorado Rapids.

The Toffees goalkeeper has already been heavily linked with a return to his homeland with NBC Sports and Pro Soccer Talk indicating that he had held serious talks with the Rapids.

Now sources have told ESPN FC that the 36-year-old is open to the move and could sign with the Denver outfit this May when when the current Premier League season ends.

Howard, who has previously played MLS with MetroStars (New York Red Bulls) between 1998 and 2003, is contracted with Everton until the summer of 2018 but is expected to leave Goodison Park sooner.

USA international Howard, who has more than 400 appearances for the Merseyside club, has been a mainstay at Everton since arriving on an initial loan in 2006 but has been well below his best at times this campaign and could be offloaded by Roberto Martinez.

The fact that former Manchester United gloveman Howard has spent 10 years with the Blues suggests that the Rapids will not have to outlay a transfer fee for his services but will pay the shot-stopper a yearly salary of between $2-3million.
