Former Everton midfielder Joe Parkinson has welcomed their swoop for Tom Cleverley.

Cleverley joins Everton on a Bosman from Manchester United.

"I think it's a very good signing and it's good to get it done so early," Parkinson told evertonfc.com.

"The big plus is that Roberto (Martinez) has already worked with Tom at Wigan. I know when I went into Wigan to work and we spoke about Tom Cleverley, they said how hard he works - he was first out on the training ground, he was the last one in and he worked hard in the gym. He was always trying to improve himself.

"I think he's very under-rated, especially by the press in recent times, but I'm sure once the players get to work with him, he'll become a player they will want in the team all of the time because he's a very good player."
