Everton hero Nevin backing Koeman to take club into top 6

Everton hero Pat Nevin says new manager Ronald Koeman can transform them into a top six club.

The Toffees endured a tough Premier League campaign last term, stuttering to an 11th-placed finish, just ten points clear of the relegation zone.

Nevin told the Daily Star: "It's heartbreaking for me because Robbie is a good mate of mine but the time was right, it was time for change.

"Everton did the right thing and to get Koeman was a coup.

"Everton is one of the best jobs to get at the moment.

"Expectations have been lowered over the last couple of years, they've now got this huge new investment and plenty of good young players. It's a brilliant situation for Koeman.

"Everton is just sitting there waiting to be turned into a massive club.

"It's a big call from Koeman and it will be difficult to get into the top six but that's where I hope and expect them to be within the next couple of years."
