Everton hero Nigel Martyn is full of praise for Jordan Pickford.

Martyn says the goalkeeper possesses a maturity beyond his years as he blends the athleticism of youth with the confidence of a senior professional.

He told evertonfc.com: “I think that (the enthusiasm to be busy) happens when you're young. I remember in my younger days almost willing the opposition to have an attack so you can show what you can do and you have that confidence.

“As I got to the back end of my career I was 'you can stay down the other end as long as you like', so as not to have that much work for yourself.

“He does have that confidence but he exudes that confidence to his team-mates as well.

“I wasn't as vocal as that at 24. He's got that confidence straight away and he's got that confidence straight away. It's all good.

“Even at Crystal Palace, some of the defenders wanted me to be more vocal but by the end of my game I could talk a back four through a game and I think that comes with confidence but if he's got that straight away and he's got the respect of his team-mates then it's all good."
