"It is one of those things; when you come to a place like Chelsea you know you are going to be under the cosh but the gaffer asked me to push up in the last five minutes and then try and get on the end of something."
Cahill will now link up with Australia but is unsure of his fitness after playing six games in rapid succession.
He said: "There's a couple of weeks off now and I have got a couple of knocks so I'll have to see if I am fit to play for Australia which at the moment is doubtful.
"I am just going to rest and then on Wednesday I will go into camp and see how I get on."
