Everton great Snodin: Jelavic's presence will help Cahill's form

Former Everton midfielder Ian Snodin suggests that Nikica Jelavic's presence at the club will help Tim Cahill reignite his career.

The Australian international scored just his second goal of the campaign in Saturday's 1-1 FA Cup quarter-final draw with Sunderland and according to Snodin, the Socceroos star could soon be back in top form now that winter signing Jelavic is starting to perform for the Toffees.

"One of the biggest positives to come out of Everton FC over the past fortnight has been what I have seen from Nikica Jelavic," Snodin wrote in his column for the Liverpool Echo.

"The Croatian has had a slow start to his Goodison career, with injuries and illness restricting his appearances, but he is getting a run of games under his belt now, and it all looks very positive.

"He was heavily involved in Tim Cahill's goal on Saturday, and his all round game looks very sharp.

"And maybe his presence will help Tim's form.

"It will certainly remove some of the aerial and goalscoring burden which Tim has long carried.

"I was delighted for Tim getting the goal on Saturday. It was a really smart finish because he had to readjust really quickly from Jelavic's header, and he controlled his finish beautifully.

"Tim comes alive in situations like that. I thought he was outstanding at both ends of the pitch on Saturday and that is a real boost."
