Everton great Cahill proud of Australian scoring record

The New York Red Bulls midfielder, and former Everton ace, came off the bench to head home his 29th goal for the Socceroos in Tuesday night's 1-0 win over Costa Rica in Sydney.

Cahill, who has now joined Damian Mori at the top of the scorers list, was now looking forward to breaking the record in the next few internationals he plays.

"To get the record with Damian Mori is a special time. There's something there to be broken in the next few games or next World Cup," he said after his 65th cap.

"It's a big honour to play for your country and have records like that.

"I'm very proud."
