Everton fullback Baines pleased for Barkley after sparkling debut

Leighton Baines was pleased for Everton teammate Ross Barkley over his debut in defeat to QPR.

One positive to come from Saturday was the impressive debut display by teenage midfielder Barkley. The left-back was fulsome in his praise for the 17-year-old.

"He was definitely the bright spark," Baines told evertontv. "He's got a massive future and he's a nice lad as well which is probably one of the best things you can say about him.

"He does all the right things, he's eager to learn, he listens to all the senior professionals and that's going to stand him in good stead.

"I thought he played really well today. He was arguably our best player or one of the better players out there for us.

"But we don't want to put too much pressure on him, it's still early days for him and he's still got to keep trying to improve, but we're pretty convinced he's going to do that."
