Everton forward Wayne Rooney has been offered the role of club ambassador by Manchester United, according to the Sun.

Earlier this month, the 31-year-old moved back to his boyhood club Everton, ending a 13-year association with United.

However, the report claims that United vice-chairman Ed Woodward wants the club legend to return to the club in some capacity in the future.

The former England was supposedly verbally promised a future ambassador role with United before he made his move to Goodison Park.
