Everton fears of serious Lukaku injury allayed

Everton have received a boost with news that Romelu Lukaku's ankle injury is not as severe as first thought.

The on-loan Chelsea striker was stretchered off during the first half of the Toffees' 4-0 Merseyside derby loss to Liverpool on Tuesday night and it was feared he had done some serious ankle ligament damage.

However, Everton boss Roberto Martinez has revealed that Lukaku will only be sidelined for a number of weeks after further assessment of the problem.

"There is no ligament damage and the injury is not as bad as we first thought," said Martinez on the club's official website.

"It will be a case of weeks rather than months."
