Everton favourite Watson senses derby triumph

Everton favourite Steve Watson believes his old club have a great chance to beat Liverpool on Sunday.

Watson's only experience of getting one over the Red half of Merseyside came as an 87th minute substitute in the 1-0 win at Goodison Park in December 2004.

He told evertontv: "Unfortunately for me my experiences were never good in terms of results. I never managed to win one. I was on the bench once when we won one but never on the pitch. I don't know what that says about me!

"But in all seriousness they are great occasions and the Liverpool derby is one of the very best derbies. I was just unfortunate not to come out of the game with a smile on my face."

Watson describes the game as 'huge' and says the passion and commitment on show are what stand it apart from other great rivalries.

"The level of intensity is huge," he added. "I have played in a lot of derbies while at Newcastle and at West Brom and a derby is always special.

"But Everton versus Liverpool is huge. It is one of the very best derbies. The passion of the fans and the commitment of the players is what makes it special and different from other derbies."
