Everton are encouraging Wayne Rooney to make the move to MLS.
The Mirror says Everton are hoping that Rooney's move to Major League Soccer side DC United is still on, following Sam Allardyce's sacking.
Any U-turn on the switch to America's capital city would mean the Blues having to cough up another £9million for a player who turns 33 in October.
They agreed a deal worth £180,000 a week when Rooney returned to Goodison Park on a two-year contract last summer after a decade at Manchester United.
United weighed in by paying an additional £120,000 per week, enabling Rooney to receive the same £300k weekly wage he had enjoyed at Old Trafford.
The commitment was driven by chairman Bill Kenwright, despite majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri expressing doubts about the deal.
