Everton boss Roberto Martinez is actively seeking a new striker after losing Nikica Jelavic to Hull City.

The Croatian international completed a reported £6.5million move to the KC Stadium earlier today which has prompted Martinez to jump straight into the transfer market to find a replacement.

The Toffees have on-loan Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku as it’s only recognised centre-forward, with January signing Aiden McGeady more suited on the wing, and Martinez admits he needs to bring in a new goalscorer this winter.

"What is important is that Aiden McGeady arriving has given us a bit more strength in the wide areas and there are many flexible players who can fill in to that number nine position," Martinez told evertonfc.com.

"But it would be an area that we are looking at before the window closes.

"We are looking at the options to see if there is a player with the right profile who would fit into the squad."
