Everton desperate to get first win this weekend - Cahill

Everton star Tim Cahill insists the players are desperate to record their first win of the English Premier League season. The Toffees are currently rooted to the bottom of the table with just two draws in six games - their worst start to a season in 16 years - and Cahill says the players are ready to grab maximum points after their unlucky scoreless draw than Fulham.

"We would have loved to have got our first win but it obviously just makes us hungrier now," he told the Liverpool Daily Post ahead of Saturday's away clash with Birmingham City.

"We knew how tough it was going to be especially with our position in the table which put more pressure on the game.

"We started off really bright and sharp and it's been a while since I have had a chance to play up front with Yak (Yakubu).

"We played well and had a few chances and got close to scoring - the football was positive."

As for his own fitness, Cahill said he was feeling good after sustaining a slight knee problem recently even though he had to come off after 62 minutes against the Cottagers.

"I trained Thursday and Friday to have a chance of selection and got in the starting line-up, and in the second half I had to come off, I gave as much as I could until the knee had enough," added Cahill.

"Yak played well and I was happy for him to get some chances and hopefully they will turn into goals once he gets sharper, and also Seamus Coleman gave us a different gear with his attacking which was great to see."
