Everton delays over Yakubu deal

Everton will discover on Wednesday if they have been successful in gaining a work permit for new striker Yakubu.

Everton boss David Moyes agreed an £11.25 million fee for the Nigerian international with Middlesbrough last week but his switch to Goodison Park has been held up as they wait for a work permit.

The Toffees' initial request for a permit was rejected because Yakubu does not fulfil the necessary criteria of having played in 75 per cent of Nigeria's matches over the last two years because he opted to miss the 2006 African Cup of Nations in favour of plying for Middlesbrough instead.

Everton's website confirmed on Sunday that their appeal hearing in relation to the work permit application will take place on Wednesday when club officials will be in attendance.
