Former Everton and Wigan Athletic defender David Unsworth says Roberto Martinez must win over the Blues support as a first task at Goodison Park.
He reckons Martinez's task will be made difficult because he wasn't the first choice of many supporters. They wanted an 'in-house' replacement.
Unsworth, who made more than 350 Everton appearances, said: "It's fair to say that Roberto will have to win over the fans. There's quite a big split among the Evertonians.
"He's by no means the no1 choice for a lot of them. The fans will also throw back in his face the fact that he had talks about the Liverpool job last year. "I think fans will welcome the attacking style his teams play, but there remain question marks about their defensive qualities.
"David always set up his Everton teams to be hard to beat, whereas with Roberto, it's almost like 'if you score three, we'll score four' so it will be interesting."
