Everton defender Jagielka ready for revenge on wind-up merchant Rooney

Everton defender Phil Jagielka has refused to bite back at Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney during this week's England get-together.

The centre-back refused to answer back and give Roo - who has 11 goals in his last 11 games - even more incentive to down his old team-mates.

Jagielka said: "Wayne's always got plenty to say, believe me. When the game comes round he's throwing all sorts of banter at you, and there was a bit flying around this week.

"Obviously with it being Wayne, he's expecting to score against us, and he made it clear he can't wait to play against me at the weekend - but that's just him isn't it?

"I didn't say much back - I just smirked, because the more you say, the more you encourage him. He's a fantastic player, I don't want to be winding him up and give him any more reason to score than he already has.

"The final thing he said to me was 'See you Sunday' - with a massive smirk on his face, so what more can you say?"
