Everton defender Jagielka has no excuses for West Brom humbling

Everton defender Phil Jagielka offered no excuses for their humbling by West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Jagielka admits he does not know why the team failed to spark.

The England international said: "I don't know what we can put it down to.

"I thought we came out for the second half and looked like we were maybe going to do something but unfortunately Mikel's sending off killed us.

"We could then either sit back and take 2-1 and hopefully create one or two chances and maybe get a draw, or go at it and try to create three, four or five chances.

"We went for the latter but West Brom are a good passing team and they took their chances well.

"We have just not been at the races and have paid the price."

The Toffees must now lift themselves for a difficult trip to champions Chelsea next week.

Jagielka said: "It is obviously not going to be an easy game away at Chelsea but we are going there as underdogs and hopefully we can put in a decent performance and come away with something."
