Everton defender Phil Jagielka admits he enjoyed Monday's 1-1 draw at Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola's side was reduced to 10 men when Kyle Walker was dismissed on the stroke of half-time, while Morgan Schneiderlin saw red for the Blues, after Raheem Sterling's late volley had rescued a draw for City.

“It was brilliant, wasn't it," said Jagielka to evertonfc.com. “That's football. The Premier League has been pretty decent so far – every game on telly has been worth watching.

“That is what you want. There has been a lot of money spent in this transfer window and we are hoping it is going to carry on being the best league in the world – and so far, so good.

“We knew we would have to concede possession of the ball but we had tactics to hit them on the counter-attack.

“I thought we did that well, especially in the first half. They didn't cause us too many problems.

“But after their sending off they upped their game and took it to us – and we were left a little bit confused about what to do: whether to try to get the second one or hold them out.

“They made some fantastic substitutions and changes to their formation, which allowed them to create a few chances.

“Their manager is very tactically aware of what he needs to do during games. They are one of the favourites to win the league and I think we held our own 11v11. It gives us a good idea of where we are at.

“We are not the finished article, we have a few weeks left of the transfer window and you never know what will happen."
