Everton defender Jagielka cannot explain England failure

Everton defender Phil Jagielka is at a loss to explain England's poor defending at the World Cup.

He cannot explain how England have leaked FOUR goals in TWO games against Italy and Uruguay without being under severe pressure in tight matches.

Jagielka said: "I was talking to Joe Hart and he's had about five saves to make in the whole tournament and we've conceded four goals.

"We are absolutely gutted and trying to figure out where we are - it's gut-wrenching. In the first game against Italy we played pretty well but we didn't get the result we wanted.

"You hope your fortune changes for the second one but it's nearly a carbon copy.

"We played well in patches but you look at the goals we conceded against Uruguay and we aren't particularly happy with either of them.

"The first one is a big ricochet in the middle of the park and then a fantastic ball from Edinson Cavani.

"And the second one I can't understand. Suarez is offside then onside because of a big flick off Steven Gerrard and it falls inch-perfect for him in a way that is gutting.

"It's World Cup football at its worst but then there was a fantastic finish from him and that's probably what you expect. We had a couple of decent chances but I didn't think the referee was as firm as he could have been.

"I think they could have been down to ten men in the first half and I think more of their players could have been booked.

"It sounds like a bunch of excuses but this is just a frustrated defender trying to give an honest opinion."
