Everton defender Sylvain Distin says no-one in the dressing room blamed Jan Mucha for their Carling Cup defeat to Chelsea.
Mucha's howler allowed Salomon Kalou to score in Chelsea's 2-1 win.
Distin said: "I told Jan it's football, we all make mistakes. Sometimes it's personal mistakes, sometimes the opposition force you to make a mistake.
"At half-time I told him to refocus and put the mistake in the past. It's done and there was nothing he could do about it, so in the second half he would have saves to make.
"I told him to forget about it no matter how hard that is.
"If a centre-back makes a mistake it can create an opportunity for the striker to score but that's part of the game and you have to forget about it. Even the best in the world make mistakes."
The central defender said it was too easy to suggest the Toffees may have won if regular keeper Tim Howard had retained his usual starting spot.
"I think actually Mucha did well," he said. "Of course I've played a lot of games with Tim so there's a better understanding than with Mucha, but with him he did good apart from the mistake. It's too easy to say that with Tim in goal it wouldn't have happened. You just never know. I don't think it's down to him."
