Everton defender Sylvain Distin has hailed the consistency of Leighton Baines.

Baines has played 99 consecutive games for Everton.

"Sure he has played a lot of games in a row but it is also about his quality. He is definitely one of the best I have played with," the Frenchman told evertontv.

"He is a top player. He can pass, he can tackle, he can cross, score free-kicks - he is an amazing player.

"It is a great achievement for him but again it is not just that he has played all those games it is how well he has played in them and it is clear he is one of the best about.

"He is still young so he will probably feel it more when he gets past 30!

"But he is part of the group who stay behind after training and does extra work in the gym. He is looking after himself and you can see the results on the pitch."
