Cole, 31, has been virtually unrivalled since making his senior international debut in Albania in 2001 and has won all 98 of his caps as an England starter.
Yet Baines, 27, said: "I've been in the squad for a couple of years now and I'm feeling comfortable and a part of things.
"But of course I want to play in more games. That's only natural. The more you play, the happier you are.
"Ashley Cole has been outstanding for England for a long time and he deserves every one of those 98 caps.
"I'm sure he will get to the milestone of 100 caps and I don't think there is any way I am going to stop that happening.
"Ashley is a terrific player but, in the games I've played, I've shown I can come in and do a job as well.
"I've no idea what I need to do to get in the team ahead of him on a regular basis. All I can do is play as well as I can for Everton and that's all I'm really focused on."
