Everton coach David Weir is in the frame for the job at Sheffield United.

The Daily Mail says Weir was last night on the verge of a surprise move into management with Sheffield United.

The ex-Everton and Scotland defender emerged as strong favourite after making a late entry into the field.

Weir is currently Everton's reserve team manager and was interviewed for David Moyes' old job ahead of Roberto Martinez being appointed at Goodison.
