Everton reserves coach Alan Stubbs was pleased with the extra quality in his team for their 2-1 win over Aston Villa.
Once Ross Barkley had given the hosts the lead at the Halton Stadium with a fine finish from the edge of the box, new signing Royston Drenthe doubled Everton's advantage when he raced clear to slot home.
And Stubbs told evertonfc.com: "I was pleased with the win, but I thought we've played better and lost before. On the flip side of that, I don't think we've played as well against Villa but we've won the game.
"Two bits of quality have won it for us really - Ross and Royston's goals were the difference.
"When you've got players like that in your team, you can play badly and win games because of the quality and I think that proved to be the case."
