New Everton football chief Marcel Brands has announced Wayne Rooney can leave this summer.

Everton will not stand in Rooney's way if he wants to move to DC United.

The former England striker is in talks over a switch to the MLS outfit.

Toffees chief Brands said: “There is a possibility he will be leaving. He is talking with DC and we will now talk with him.

“If this is a move he wants to make, then there is only one thing I can say, I hope he will return when he is finished because he is a legend at the club."
