Everton chasing Wigan defender Scharner

Everton are chasing Wigan Athletic defender Paul Scharner.

The Manchester Evening News says Toffees boss David Moyes is keen to strengthen his depleted squad in January and has been monitoring 29-year-old Scharner's form.

The Austrian international, who can play either centre back or midfield, has also attracted interest from Aston Villa and Fulham.

Wigan may decide to sell should a suitable offer be made and then use the cash elsewhere.
