Everton chairman Bill Kenwright aims to hand manager David Moyes a new contract.
The Daily Mail says Moyes, who has two years to run on his current deal, is known to have had misgivings over the club's prospects amid deepening financial gloom, and was among those considered by Aston Villa after ill-health forced Gerard Houllier to quit last season.
Kenwright, who appointed Moyes in 2002, will open talks in the New Year.
