Everton captain Arteta: We need to bounce back

Everton captain Mikel Arteta admits they need to buck up their ideas after defeat at home to Newcastle United.

Arteta believes Everton's misfortune in front of goal was typical of their season so far, confessing the Blues are yet to hit the type of form that saw them suffer defeat just twice in the league between January and May.

"We're all deeply disappointed," he told evertontv. "I don't think we did enough to win the game.

"The first half was really poor and not the standard that we want to set at the Club. Then we were chasing the game again. In the second half we put them under a bit more pressure, but even then I think we played too many long balls and didn't play the ball the way we try to do it.

"I think they did better than us and we made too many individual mistakes. We miscontrolled the ball too many times, let them play in our half and put ourselves under pressure.

"We had two clear chances at the end to at least equalise the game and we haven't done it. I think we've been lacking a bit of that in the last few games. We need to get up now, we need to improve.

"Yesterday wasn't good enough and we're not happy. I don't think anybody can be happy and proud of what we have done yesterday."
