Everton call for compensation for stranded fans

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has called on all fans left stranded by the cancellation of their tickets for Thursday's UEFA Cup clash at Nurnberg to be compensated.

More than 1,000 supporters have had their tickets annulled for the match in Germany after the Bundesliga club openly sold tickets directly to Everton supporters over the internet.

That would have seen fans from both clubs sitting together but, after UEFA classified the game a 'risk' match, those tickets have been cancelled because clubs are not allowed to enter into such transactions.

Fans must buy from the official allocation - believed to be 3,000 - that Everton have had for a secure part of the stadium.

With the decision made at such short notice, however, many fans have been left with plane tickets and hotel bookings, but with no hope of getting into the stadium.

And Kenwright insists they should be repaid by Nurnberg.

Asked if the Everton fans affected deserved to be compensated, Kenwright said: "You would think so. (By) Nurnberg I would have thought.

"I would have thought these boys do have the right to some sort of compensation."

Kenwright claimed he sensed a problem as soon as he heard about the small number of tickets available to travelling fans.

"The bad news began weeks ago when we were given our allocation, which is very small," he told Sky Sports News. "Evertonians will do anything to see their team, especially in Europe.

"The fact that these lads, who work hard for their money, have invested money not only in the tickets but in flights and hotels - they are wondering whether they should go.

"Some of them will want to be there, they've waited a long time to be in Europe.

"I do feel for them and I do feel they've been dealt a blow by UEFA."
