Everton boss Unsworth explains hooking Schneiderlin; benching Rooney

Everton caretaker boss David Unsworth has explained his halftime substitution of Morgan Schneiderlin in their 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.

Schneiderlin was left out of the previous game against Watford following a training ground incident that saw both himself and Kevin Mirallas take up an offer to end a Finch Farm session early.

After the game, Unsworth said: “We tweaked the way we went about it (in the second half).

“We were forced to bring Tom Davies on at half-time. Morgan had an injection before the game on his toe and he was struggling with it.

“We were going to make a change anyway to have a little bit more impetus up front and that helped us and I felt we had a little bit more control and were more of a threat.

“I was delighted with the desire today to come back twice."

Unsworth also dismissed suggestions that there are any issues with Wayne Rooney after the veteran was left on the substitutes bench.

He said: “We picked a team and a squad of players that we thought would win a game. There's no issue there.

“Wayne has been fantastic since I took over. He's trained brilliantly and been involved in all the games so there's no issue with Wayne."
