Everton boss Moyes: Young English talent not up to mark

Everton boss Dave Moyes believes Steve McClaren is being forced to call-up veterans to his England squad because of a lack of emerging talent.

"At a time when people are talking about the number of foreigners in the English game, we've had a policy of trying to bring in English players," said the Everton manager, who has signed Joleon Lescott, Andrew Johnson, Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines in the last year.

"We haven't had a great deal of money so our focus has been on what's in the local grocery store, if you like. It has paid off, but the numbers are dwindling and we have found it difficult to find English players in the market this summer. The quality has dropped and there is a much bigger and wider issue that needs to be addressed. Money has something to do with it. English football now has the money to buy the best players from anywhere in the world, passports allowing."
