Everton boss Moyes: Yakubu's best performance

Everton boss Dave Moyes believes Yakubu Aiyegbeni produced his best performance since his arrival from Middlesbrough in Saturday's 7-1 victory over Sunderland.

Yakubu has now netted six goals from 12 starts this term following his Club-record breaking transfer from Middlesbrough, whilst the Blues' midfield has clicked into an impressive rhythm that was clear for all to see in Saturday's 7-1 victory over Sunderland.

Moyes was delighted with the role Yakubu played in the performance - and underlined the fact the growing competition for places is bringing the best out of his forwards.

He told evertonfc.com: "I think it was Yakubu's best game in a blue shirt. He played well, he is beginning to rise to the challenge here at what is a hard-working football club. The supporters here demand that you compete, get through the game and show what you have got.

"We know he can score goals, and he got his goals today, but his holding up play was very good as well.

"I was also pleased AJ came off the bench and scored. We got him back quickly from his injury and he is back in and he is really important to us. With him, James McFadden, Victor Anichebe and James Vaughan all waiting and pushing Yak. He needs to keep scoring because we do have a busy period coming up."
