Everton boss David Moyes has all but given up hope of Champions League qualification this season.
But just one win in their last five games - including a defeat to fourth-placed Liverpool - has left them five points off their arch rivals with just four games to play, and Moyes feels Uefa Cup qualification is their only realistic target now.
"I think at the moment it'll be very difficult to make fourth," he said. "We have to make sure we stay in fifth and hold onto that."
Moyes says he is confident going into Thursday night's game against Chelsea - as he always is in home clashes - and his side's defensive solidarity this season will give him added confidence.
Meanwhile, the Everton boss has reiterated his desire to see Everton improve their stadium.
Moyes is eager to see the club fulfil its potential over the coming years and he believes a change to Goodison Park is the only way forwards.
"I think it's important that Everton get a new stadium or a redeveloped stadium. We certainly need something so that we can continue the progress."
