Everton boss Moyes: World Cup too soon for Rodwell

Everton boss David Moyes says the World Cup will come too soon for Jack Rodwell.

The youngster has been tipped to make Fabio Capello's England squad.

"Jack will be an England player in the future undoubtedly," Moyes told evertonTV. "But it is too early and too soon this summer.

"We have got to be careful talking in the press every time someone has a good game and does well. The media then propel them forward and I think the England manager is probably fed up of it. Fabio Capello has probably got his squad near enough picked now in his head."

Rodwell has already featured in the national side at both under 19 and under 21 level, scoring twice for Stuart Pearce's side.

Moyes admits the number of injuries in his squad this season has given the Birkdale-born midfielder vital match experience and in turn improved his game.

"Jack has played over 20 games this season and for a 19-year-old many would say that is not a bad return. I am sure he will play quite a few more before the end of the season.

"I think now we can rest him it means when he gets his moments on the pitch he knows what to do at the right time when it matters."
