Everton boss David Moyes is hopeful of adding to his squad in January.
Moyes is seeking a right-sided midfielder in January but is yet to hear from Landon Donovan as to whether he is willing to reprise his 10-week loan spell from last season.
The United States captain is currently on his first extended break from the game in over two years, due to Confederations Cup and World Cup commitments, and is considering whether his career is best served by an extended holiday or another spell in the Premier League.
"I have spoken with him and he was going on holiday," said Moyes. "I would hope to hear something next week if there was any chance. If not, we will try and move towards something else."
