Everton boss Moyes thrilled with Lescott breakthrough

Everton boss Dave Moyes admits the club is thrilled with Joleon Lescott's England breakthrough.

"We are all really pleased for him, it was thoroughly deserved," said Moyes. "He has been terrific since he came here from Wolves.

"We all know about his ability on the pitch but he is a very good listener and he wants to improve all the time. He can play both roles really well and that versatility will help him. If he starts, he won't have a problem with the occasion.

"International football is different and you will only know if someone is ready for it after they have played a few games but Joleon has given all the right signs.

"We all hope Joe will be involved and it will be great for Everton if he can become a regular. You always judge yourself on how many players you have in your national team. If Andy Johnson had been fit, we would have had three boys in the squad and the thing we have got to concentrate on now is to get them starting regularly.

"The only way that will happen, though, is if they maintain a good level of performance for Everton and that's what we all want."
