Everton boss David Moyes is moving for Cardiff City's Bosman transfer Jay Bothroyd.
The Daily Star says Moyes is hopeful of winning the battle for Bothroyd, 28, who is out of contract at Cardiff.
Bothroyd, who has been at Coventry, Wolves and Italian side Perugia among others, made his full England debut last season.
Toffees boss Moyesie, who is short of transfer funds at his cash-strapped club, sees Bothroyd as a similar signing to Jermaine Beckford, recruited from Leeds last summer on a free when he was out of contract.
