Everton boss Dave Moyes says Stephen Pienaar has a big role to play in their UEFA Cup campaign.

"I think you can see Steven is starting to become a very important player for us," Moyes told evertonfc.com.

"He's come in and with his experience in Europe with Ajax and Borussia Dortmund last year I hoped he would be one of the players who would be able help us in Europe and I think he did that against Kharkiv."

The versatility of Pienaar, who can play in a variety of midfield positions, is something that pleases Moyes.

"He came on loan and when you bring someone in on loan, it gives us a chance to see him, him a chance to see us, but also the supporters a chance to see him as well," he explained.

"He's good on the ball and doesn't give it away, which is a great habit. He can play in the centre, on the left, or on the right, so we will see how it works out for us. But he was one of the best midfielders in Europe a year ago."
