Everton boss Moyes open to signing permanently Real Madrid's Drenthe

Everton boss David Moyes has challenged on-loan Real Madrid wing-back Royston Drenthe to play his way to a permanent deal.

Moyes pointed out the loan route was the likes of Mikel Arteta and Steven Pienaar revived their careers and become Everton heroes in the process.

"Royston has done OK. He's had some moments that have helped us, and some moments that have worried us," the Blues boss explained.

"But it is early days for him here. He is in the last year of his contract [at Real], he's on loan and there won't be a fee for him. We did the same with Mikel and Pienaar, and it was a great opportunity for them.

"But it took time for them to settle down and make an impression.

"They had to work hard and come to terms with the English game, but they did and got contracts. Royston has the same chance.

"We are not in a hurry with him, he's got plenty of time to show us what he can do - we know what a talent he is, and the idea is to make it permanent if we both like what we see."
