Everton boss Moyes only hopeful of permanent Donovan deal

A Major League Soccer player strike looks to be the only thing that will get Landon Donovan a permanent deal with Everton.

The new collective bargaining agreement which decides players salaries could potentially cause a strike within the playing community and may see the Toffees offer him a permanent deal or at least a loan extension if the MLS season is delayed.

But Toffees boss David Moyes said he respects the fact that Donovan is under contract with the LA Galaxy and was only slightly hopeful that he would have the 27-year old for longer than initially agreed upon.

"I think Landon would like to stay but at the moment it probably looks as if not,” Moyes said.

"I wouldn't want to have any disrespect to his club or the contract he has over there."
