Everton boss Dave Moyes is planning to trump Manchester City for CSKA Moscow striker Jo Alves with an amazing £18 million bid.

The Mirror says Moyes has been in talks with the player's agents after watching him - following the go-ahead to spend big by chairman Bill Kenwright.

The Goodison chief hopes to pull off the stunning swoop and has a big chance as he has done previous business with Jo's financial handlers whom he has signed players from.

Jo, 21, is part-owned by Kia Joorabchian's group and there is a chance Everton could 'hire' him for a year or buy him outright.

City have been trying to sign Jo for months, but the internal strife at Thaksin Shinawatra's club has thrown up the chance for Moyes to step in.
